Our Story:
A Legacy in Every Beat
From vinyl and iconic club residencies to a modern father-son partnership, discover the decades of passion behind Emergency Entertainments.
The Foundations: From Vinyl to Club Residencies
The story begins with Gary, who stepped behind the decks in the mid-1980s as a mobile DJ. Not only was he spinning tracks, but he was also a promoter, helping other DJs and acts find their footing on the mobile circuit. By the 1990s, Gary had progressed to the heart of the Plymouth nightlife scene, serving as a resident DJ for the city's most iconic clubs.

The Family Evolution
As life moved forward, Gary made the choice to settle into a 9-5 career and focus on raising a family. However, the music never stopped. To balance home life with his passion, he launched a series of mobile discos under names like Danny’s Disco and Twilight Disco. This era was about bringing professional club-quality sound to weddings, birthdays, and community celebrations.

Fourteen Years at the Life Centre
Seeking a stable way to keep the party going, Gary took on the role of resident DJ and compere for the Sk8house roller disco events held every Saturday at the Plymouth Life Centre. This became a local institution. For 14 years, Gary manned the booth, creating a high-energy atmosphere and fun for thousands of skaters and families.

The Apprentice: Jay Learning the Ropes
While Gary was keeping the Life Centre moving, his son Jay was right there beside him. Growing up in the DJ booth, Jay began learning the technical side of the craft before he was even out of school. Over time, through dedicated training and the guidance of a veteran, Jay developed the 'courage to talk to the masses,' transforming from a curious observer into a confident performer.

Music with a Mission
Music has always been a way for the family to give back. Following a long stay at Derriford Hospital, Gary decided to use his talents to help others by joining Hospital Radio Plymouth. Within 12 months Gary had achieved the 'best newcomer & show' award! For the Monday 6 o'clock Request Show, playing everything from the 60s to the 90s to make patients' stays a little brighter. Sadly Gary had to leave this position due to family circumstances at the time.
